Synopsis

Chantaléa Commin, an artist from Guadeloupe, sees visual art as a means of empowerment and a way to challenge the social frameworks she grew up in.

Her work evokes elements of her childhood, such as the Creole garden, while rejecting idealized or folkloric representations of the Caribbean. Instead, she asserts the right also to show its darker sides, its melancholy, and contradictions.
