Many Japanese youngsters love to dress in outlandish outfits in a bid to imitate their favorite animation or manga characters. Far from the images of reserve and self-constraint Japan often conveys, these “cosplayers” are regarded as freaks.

Despite the prejudice, Cosplay has without doubt created a phenomenon that is spreading to the rest of the world and engendering a lucrative industry.
