Synopsis

The mee sua vermicelli is an identity marker for the Fuchow community which migrated to Malaysia in the early 20th century. Their forebears were coolies in the region’s rubber plantations.

Where once the town of Setiawan was filled with mee sua makers, now a journey off the beaten track is required.

Jenny Tan, a writer and culinary enthusiast finds herself in search of the last remaining mee sua producers.
