Synopsis

India may seem like an unusual destination for a world wine tour. Yet the country has a history related to this nectar, even if it has been forgotten. There are traces of winemaking in archaeological remains dating back nearly 4,000 years.

Traditional consumption, which had disappeared, has undergone a revival in recent decades. India harbors 25 million connoisseurs, who represent a significant market to tap. Today, wine is becoming trendy among the Indian gentry, and Bollywood is happy to promote it as a social status symbol.

In 2000, the country had six estates. Today, there are 65, most of which are located in Maharashtra.
