THE N°5 WAR
The whiff of a deadly duel
The story of the most famous perfume in the world is worthy of the best novels.
Since its truly revolutionary introduction, back in 1921, it has been wildly coveted. The financial battle it prompted took a whole new turn in 1940 when Coco Chanel, with the help of the Nazis occupying France, went to great lengths to get rid of her Jewish associates, the Wertheimer brothers.
The war they lead against each other started in the Roaring Twenties and went on during the German occupation. It involved the Parisian elite, Nazi spies, unscrupulous businessmen, double agents and brilliant perfume designers.
