Synopsis

For the first time, the Yawalapiti, one of the most fascinating tribes of the Amazon in Brazil, have been given cameras. Under the guidance of their chief, Aritana, they went to great lengths to record their images and safeguard their culture and language, now only spoken by a handful of elders.

This groundbreaking film records the central ceremony of their culture, the Kuarup, a funeral ritual that lasts for a year after the death of an important community member. Until now, no pictures of that ceremony have ever filtered out.
