AUSTRALIA, FIRE AND WATER
A round-the-world tour of countries facing climate change
An episode from the series EARTH ON EDGE
With its white sand beaches and waves that are popular among surfers, and also the Great Barrier Reef, Australia is almost like heaven on Earth. Its inhabitants are fully aware of their good fortune and have built their lives facing the ocean they cherish.
But extreme climate phenomena undermine the balance of the country. The Great Barrier Reef is affected by another severe episode of bleaching. In 30 years, almost half of this heritage has been lost, and the reefs could disappear forever.
