Synopsis

A woman is stabbed to death near La Défense in Paris. Marc Machin, a young man who has been convicted of sexual assaults is the obvious culprit. He doesn't work, spends his evenings out smoking joints with his friends.

During 36 hours of police custody, Marc Machin denies his involvement. On the 37th hour, he confesses when a police officer mentions the victim's little boy, he himself lost his mother when he was 9 years old. Marc Machin admits the crime giving credible details, failing to recall that a detective showed him pictures of the crime scene. The young man is convicted and imprisoned for first degree murder.

Six months later, on May 22, 2002, another woman is killed in the same area. However, nobody makes the connection until a man walks into a police station several years later.
