			Synopsis
The island of Martinique is a paradise tormented by history and the whims of nature.
Brunel, a sugar cane cutter, talks about the arduousness of his job which requires strength and endurance in tropical humidity. In Balata, Jean-Philippe, a landscape architect, points to the devastation caused by hurricanes that have destroyed his work more than once. Saint-Pierre, the former capital of the island devastated by the eruption of Mount Pelee in 1908, has now been rebuilt but has never regained its former glory.
This is how life is in Martinique, nature destroys and men rebuild.
