Synopsis

An art, architecture and music enthusiast, Louis II of Bavaria became the patron of composer Richard Wagner for whom he built an opera house. Among the castles he built in Bavaria in the midst of the industrial revolution, the most famous is Neuschwanstein, which stands at an altitude of 1008 metres.

Declared insane in 1886, he was interned at Berg Castle, south of Munich, where he was treated by renowned psychiatrist Bernhard Von Gudden. Their bodies were found a few days later near the shore of Lake Starnberg, not far from the castle.

Murder, suicide or accident? This mysterious end as well as his life and personality gave reason to a sentence attributed to the king: "I want to remain a mystery to others as well as to myself. ยป
