Synopsis

From their Pyrenean ancestors who settled on their lands long before the arrival of the Indo-European peoples, the Basques have inherited a very singular language and mythology. They are seen as unique people with a culture rich in legends.

The first Basques left no written traces. The initial accounts, dating 218 B.C., give the impression that they were already ancient people. In fact, there is ample evidence that even physiologically they are a distinct group.
