The mangroves are one of the many species in Langkawi which illustrate the theory of evolution, which posits that those most adaptable to change have greater chances of survival.

Indeed, mangroves are believed to have first appeared just before the extinction of dinosaurs. Over time, they have learned to evolve under conditions of constant and dynamic change.
