Synopsis

Mustapha Kemal, known as Atatürk (the father of the Turks), changed the Ottoman Empire in ways the European states had failed.

He fought against the country's history by overturning the fundamentals of a society governed by religion and the caliphate. He aimed to modernize Turkey and make it adopt a more Western and secular model.

But wasn't he also what some would have called "a good dictator"?
