Synopsis

In the space of fifteen years, from 1960 to 1974, Cyprus went from a semblance of national unity to a geographical divide imposed by the Turkish occupation of the northern part of this major island in the eastern Mediterranean.

In what national and international political context did this occur? To what extent are the nationalist impulses in Athens and Ankara responsible for the Cypriot drama? How did this island laying between Europe and the East turn into a new Cold War front?

Cyprus is the story of independence being shattered.
