Synopsis
Rosa Bonheur, a 19th-century French star known as far as the United States, was one of the most gifted painters of her time.
Critics and the public alike acclaimed her highly realistic depictions of cows, horses, and deer. Her most famous painting, "The Horse Fair", is one of the most admired canvases at New York's famed Metropolitan Museum.
The artist also rubbed shoulders with the great personalities of her time, befriending Buffalo Bill. But Rosa Bonheur was first and foremost a free woman who refused to marry and lived surrounded by other women.
