Synopsis

On June 30, 1559, during a tournament, King Henri II of France was mortally wounded in the eye by his opponent's lance. He died ten days later, leaving behind his widow, Catherine de Medici, his mistress, Diane de Poitiers, and his many children, three of whom were crowned, including his successor the 15-year-old François II.

Through reenactments, this film retraces the path of one of the Renaissance's most emblematic figures in the troubled era of Protestantism's rise in Europe.
