Synopsis

In 1766, Caroline-Mathilde married Christian VII, an unstable king who soon neglected her. Isolated at the Danish court, the young queen grows close to Johann Friedrich Struensee, the king's physician and a passionate advocate of the Enlightenment.

Having become her lover and the kingdom's power broker, Struensee introduces a series of sweeping reforms. But their forbidden love and his meteoric rise spark a conspiracy that will lead to their downfall.
