Synopsis

Butter has never been so popular.

Yet, the history of this yellow gold has been chaotic. The Vikings introduced it and butter ended up in every kitchen. In the 1970s, Paul Bocuse, a world-renowned chef, used it generously before butter became accused of all sorts of evils and judged harmful to health until its triumphant return.

At 8 kilograms per person per year, France is the biggest consumer of butter in the world, but there is another country where it is the undisputed king: India. Ghee, a clarified butter, is said to have medicinal virtues and great spiritual value.
