BRAZIL, THE ATLANTIC FOREST OF BAHIA
All is not lost
An episode from the series NATURE SANCTUARIES
Synopsis
Brazil, and in particular the state of Bahia, is home to a forest that is much less well known than the Amazon, yet one of the richest in biodiversity in the world: dense and humid, the Atlantic Forest stretches along the ocean of the same name.
Originally one of the largest forest ecosystems in South America, the drastic reduction in its surface area has led to the loss of many plant and animal species. Despite this, the Atlantic Forest is home to an incredible diversity of plant species and plays a vital role as a hotbed of endemic species and unique ecosystems.
With its thick massifs, wetlands and mangroves, the Atlantic Forest remains a precious and unique natural space whose preservation is an absolute priority.
