Synopsis

Founded by the Greeks as early as the 7th century BC, Naples was then known as Parthenope and quickly became an important city. Incorporated very early on into the Roman Empire, which brought it great prosperity, it subsequently experienced a turbulent history.

Today, synonymous with sunshine, color, and noise, it is Italy’s third-largest city with 2 million inhabitants.

Nestled in the heart of a protective bay, it is nonetheless constantly threatened by earthquakes and the possible eruptions of Mount Vesuvius.
