Synopsis

Darwin’s uncle advised his nephew to take a break. A Royal Navy ship, the Beagle, was about to sail to chart the coasts of South America. Why not get on board? Reluctantly, Darwin’s father agreed to allow his son to leave for a two-year voyage.

However, the captain of the Beagle, fascinated by faces and prey to superstition, refused to allow Darwin on board. Indeed, according to him, the shape of Darwin’s nose indicated a lack of determination.

At the last minute, Darwin’s uncle managed to change the captain’s mind.
