Synopsis

With 2,000 palaces, 900 churches, ancient remains, baroque villas, obelisks, and domes aplenty, several eras overlap and intertwine in Rome. 3,000 years of history are on display.

The city remains an open-air museum, immune from modernity or industrialization, thanks to architects that have preserved the historical monuments. Despite the influx of tourists, the "Eternal City" has not revealed all its mysteries and treasures.

The Romans, who prize the dolce vita, have turned their roofs into places of relaxation and greenery, while tourists can enjoy the most beautiful panoramas from the terraces of the palaces in the historic center.
