HOW SPACE CAN SERVE THE EARTH
The fabulous journey of a man passionate about the skies
An episode from the series SPACE TOMORROW
Synopsis
It was only once we saw Earth from space that its full splendor was made apparent to us – but also its fragility. Nowadays, our access to space allows us to better understand Earth’s diversity, while also helping us to protect it.
Within the last decade, a stream of satellites has been sent into orbit to detect weather conditions, monitor signs of global warming, and keep tabs on the deforestation, the destruction of coral reefs. They can also track the migration of fish, the acidification of the oceans, desertification, and urban sprawl. Unlike measurements made on a terrestrial scale, satellites can reach into the most inaccessible areas.
But space also helps us make sophisticated predictions and assess the effectiveness of the measures we put in place.
